The Child of the Storm

For years it was nothing but darkness

Thick dark clouds filled the skies

Everyone around had a heart full of lies

In day it was a charcoal gray

By night it was a suffocating pitch black

After so long it seemed like they couldn't turn back

So dark but no rain would fall

So dry yet the trees grew tall

Scraggly bone white the trees had no leaves at all

200 years and not the crack of a smile

Like moving statues the people were hard as stone

Being among them it was better to be alone

One day unlike any other

The clouds thickened

The wind swirling around quickened

For the first time in ages the silence was broken

Thunder rumbled through the night

High above their heads it sounded like a mighty fight

Three nights came and went

Still no rain fell

Then in the blink of an eye a ear splitting crack

Something very suddenly split through the black

There at the edge of the woods

There she was a small girl of a blinding light

A small girl who ended the night

With a wide grin she approached the town

A child of the sky
