The Apprehending Wall
/Inspired by Robert Frost's 1915 poem "Mending Wall." Too many wars since and more to come.
————
I’m certain that, in ages hence,
good neighbors in due deference
will build strong walls in their defense,
believing that makes common sense.
Their efforts will spare no expense.
Aware new conflicts will commence,
promoting peace may be pretense.
They know that they’ll need to dispense
ploughs turned to swords for confidence.
Their efforts make no difference.
