Holy crap, Honey! You go out to return a library book and come back acting like you’ve been robbed or something.

I have been robbed.

I don’t think so. I really don’t.

Oh, not much. Just my soul.

Your soul? This is crazy!

C’mon! Tell me! What happened?

It was all day. Not just once.

Little by little, every person I encountered took a piece

of my soul.

 Hey! I don’t get it. You’re acting like someone out there gave you  COVID or something.

Well, I guess you could say that COVID was the start of it all.

Start of what all?

Of me being desecrated.

Ok. I can’t stand this. What happened? What was taken? Do

I need to call 911?

No. No, I don’t think they can help with this. I’ll be ok.

I guess I just mainly lost my faith in people today.

I’m gonna’ call 911 if you don’t tell me what happened.

I will! Relax. I’ll tell you. It’s simple really. As simple as a 

smile. That was what I gave and it was all I wanted back.

What is it Mother Teresa said? Peace begins with a smile?

Well, we’ve all been isolated so long, I decided this morning that I’d spread a little peace around. So I smiled literally at everyone I saw. And not one single person smiled back. Not one! It was like holding out your hand to someone to shake and they don’t, they just leave you standing there looking like a fool.  Made me so damn mad!

Wait! You’re laughing? You’re laughing at me? YOU”RE LAUGHING AT ME?

Honey. You say you smiled at everyone and no-one smiled back?

Yes! Not one! And you’re still laughing!

Ok. Thanks for your sensitivity. I’ll look in the mirror - but, for what? Is my hair a mess? What else is new? I doubt you’ll be getting a kiss anytime soon!. I….OMG!

Yeah, Oh, COVID-fearful woman! Tell me now, just how many people do you think you smiled at from behind that mask? Mother Teresa would be so proud of you!
