Night Thoughts

The sun is slowly going down,

Sinking toward the cooling ground.

Birds voices are becoming stilled,

Softly there sounds a lone whipporwill.

Shadows are lengthening beneath the trees,

Gone is the sound of the buzzing bees.

A cool night breeze is stirring the air,

Filling my head with the earth's heady fare.

Here comes a star, the first one tonight,

Beginning its endless nightly flight.

The moon has risen, it's light so white,

Reminding me of soft candlelight.

The beauty of the night is something to see,

To be enjoyed by you and by me.

Walk outside and look around,

Listen to all of the soft, soft sounds,

And smell the smell, of the dark earthy ground.
