My Muse’s Amusement

Last night, in my bed, as I pondered

deep thoughts, I lost track, my mind wandered,

for it couldn’t focus

on their neural locus—

they’re gone. Opportunities squandered.

Last night, words which I could have written,

great wonders with which I was smitten,

were sung by my muse

for she likes to confuse

me, like tossing a string to a kitten.

Last night, many words I might say

overwhelmed me in bed as I lay.

Wisdom found its rebirth

in the power of mirth—

I just can’t recall them today
