My Confession

Shall I offer my confession?

A tale of avarice and despair

Vignettes of apathy

Antipathy

Ignorance

Privilege

Hate

All bred of fear

That deep inner recognition

That I am not “special”

Not good enough

Lacking

Weak

Alone

So rendered

My protestations grow feeble

Realizing my actions

Towards others

Towards myself

Have failed the simple test

Of empathy

Of caring

Of aiding those in need

Seeking to ease my own suffering

Through imposing it upon others

While in reality lightening no one’s burden

Neither theirs

Nor my own

Thus stated

I find my confession given

‘Tis said is good for the soul

Be this true or not

It does serve to leaven the sorrow

So that now I may turn attention

To reparation

Making right my wrongs

Seeking not of others forgiveness

But rather offering restoration

Whilst pursuing

Forgiveness of self

And perhaps therein

Redemption
