Memorable Moments: A Kiss to Remember

If for everything,

all I remember about Layla,

her kiss was among the least.

I missed only her soft lips

pressed gently to mine in a tender

embraced on the stoop when I breathed.

Not even an angel with a mood swing

could make me admit anything other

than I was terrified.

Not for nothing; it’s not like I remember

the warm cinnamon on Layla’s breath

and a minty tang on my tongue.

It’s not like my mouth waters

when I think about it.

I’d be the last to admit it.

Not for nothing,

I remember that night Layla wore

a dark skirt; her legs were sleek,

pale, and made me hungry.

Weakness overwhelmed my resolve for purity,

and I let passion take control

of what I didn’t want to fight anymore.

That night, we shared a kiss,

and the stars couldn’t compare to the glow

of her hazel eyes.

Not for nothing, but sometimes,

what seems cheesy

is truly romance at its best.

It’s hard to believe

that just one kiss could lead

to a lifetime together,

but that’s all I can think about

as Layla and I start our life together.
