Make Sure You Wake Before Your Wake

It seems I’ve waken up again too soon—

yet just in time, else it might be too late—

by aging’s dictates, both a curse and boon

as youth succumbs to senescence by fate.

Alternatives are not to live that long

or face incontinencial consequence

unless you are connected by a thong

to outlets and IVs once health relents,

in which case you no longer have your say,

or if you do, your words have small avail.

There’s not much you can do—your final stay

approaches at the end of life’s travail.

This story told, it seems I’m getting old.

Some moments have been tarnished. Some are gold.
