It Doesn't Give Me Hope

I once heard someone sigh in frustration after a long day-- "it doesn't give me hope."  I happen to have my writing journal with me and jotted down the line for possible inspiration.  Within an hour, our current political quagmire gave me the rest.

There is so much

That doesn’t give me hope

There is much more, it seems,

Than before

Not expecting perfection

But give me a break

A break from the weight of

Forgetting the truth

Or worse

Ignoring it

Blissfully making it up as we go

To satisfy whatever it is we are 

Satisfying at the moment

And though there are a few

Cries in the wilderness

“Enough”

It doesn’t give me hope
