In Olden Days

Just because an unborn  

Had double X chromosomes 

She might not have the chance 

To survive in this eastern land

For she would be deemed

The inferior sex 

Just because she was not the one

Who would pass down 

Her family name after marriage

She was considered less important 

Than her brothers

Just because she was a female 

Did not have much chance to work

She was denied the opportunity 

For a higher education

When she did excellently in school

The compliment she got from her parents

For her achievement would be

“I wish you were a boy.”
