I Remember The Light

I remember

when you were young

like a sapling just emerging

naive eyes filled with wonder

you found fun easily

in everything around you,

you watched the ants’ processions

followed bees back to their hives

chased the restless wind

danced freely in the rain

I remember

when you were in bloom

like a flower at its fullest

your passion bright as the sun

you dared to chase your dreams

held fast to your goals

moving forward

with bravery and hope

I remember

how the cruel world failed you

how the light in your eyes grew dim

and the fun you used to enjoy

lost its attraction,

until the final window

of your soul closed

shutting out your world
