Holding Space
/Walking along State Hill Overlook,
leaves and brush at the sides of
the dirt path are crisp and brown.
Green vines enwrap tree trunks,
thick branches twist themselves
like tendrils over and across. Tiny
white flowers, having burst open,
leave feathery wisps to make
wishes on. The walk is lined by
pokeweed, with its green clusters
of berries waiting to turn purple.
Catbirds swoop from tree to tree,
through rustling wind, chattering
kwuts and mews, while grackles
dart about, playing hide and seek.
