Harborview Living Shrouds

"Harborview Living Shrouds" presents my reflective overview of my 32 Days in the Acute Care/Trama ward at Harborview Hospital where I waited at the bedside of wife who had a brain aneurym and never awoke from her coma.

So many faces once distinct

characterized by jealousy, bravado,

curiosity, morph into ashen death masks

deprived of peculiarity, identical

in form where ancient eyes

remain closed as yesteryear’s

entrepreneurs, entertainers,

farmers, politicians, and scholars

shuffle off threads defining stature.

Reclined on hospital chrome horses

patients roll down hallways, park

in the surgery, trundle amidst shadows

reminding bedridden sailors that mercy’s

angels hover unseen upon industrial seas,

inner-city ports and flat-bottomed piers

guarding spiritual grace on a half shell

where ocean foam caresses unique memoirs

at the threshold of Davy Jone’s locker.
