Eternal Romance

She is old now

Years taken their toll

Stiff joints, discomfort

Arthritis in control

He too is elderly

Ailments galore

Endless succession

Undignified bore

Standing by mirror

Laugh at reflection

Her mother, his father

Spring to recollection

Oh, but his heart sees

Girl she used to be

Faded eyes still hint

At mischief, vivacity

And her spirit continues

To leap in his presence

Done so for decades

Drawn to innate benevolence

She winks, takes his hand

Invites him to dance

They shuffle to the beat

Of eternal romance
