Dear Beamish Boy (a Loving Spiral)

A Spiral of Parental Love

————

First

date,

out late.

Ma and Pa,

umpires at home plate,

left no room to negotiate.

They nailed this diatribe to my pate: “Please contemplate

ways the rashness of exhuberance and brashness of protuberance may seal your fate.”

Then, in Dad’s fine print (causing me to squint), “O beamish boy, our frabjous joy, when we were nimble we’d gyre and gimble in borogroves mimsy,

head over limbsy, whiffling my tulgey wood uffishly where we stood, galumphing every day wherever we could lay, burbling her Bandersnatch hoping that none would catch (shouting outgrabe wraths to match!). Please heed our loving dispatch.”
