Covid Cult

Masks, social distance six feet apart;

Covid-19 - we all took part in this dark cult,

Like curse it took fast over the world.

In all nations, shamans are still chanting prayers

For healing and purifications with no big results.

We got trapped by its impact

Everywhere – on the bus stops,

On the supermarket lines;

No entertaining, no concerts, no fun.

No flights. Only privileged people

From royal descent could set on private jets.

We all became prisoners in our home countries;

Or “persona non-grata” for the others behind

The quarantine line.

Meanwhile, some restaurants and midnight bars

Kept back doors silently open

For special incognito customers.

And often like in Ali Baba fable

They whispered “Sesame, Open”

To get in and then the doors locked quickly behind.

So, only the chosen ones got to the table,

Like nothing happened in between.

In this cult, emerged a new game of ‘hide-and-seek’.

Meanwhile, some women began a new fashion style

Going shopping in wrinkled pajamas

With worn homey sleepers, T-shirts with stains

And bushy hair (Oh, boy, they just escaped

From their jungle domain!).

Since there were no jobs, no gyms, no daily routines,

Men grew beards, surviving on pizzas and stack of beer

Or something strong, like vodka or whiskey,

Sacrificing themselves on the couch, risking

Their sober look next day. What a cultic display!

In fact, the sense of good look disappeared

Evaporating along with the piercing smell

Of irritating sanitizing gel.

Did I mention the temperature taken?

Or the tags and marks on the wrists?

There were more people outdoors hired for this

Than the inside buyers.

But the Covid law made them the gargoyles,

The keepers of the cultic gate.

Those were required, the chosen ones.

Looking at their own reflection on the glass doors

They were bored, but still deeply self-absorbed.

Some semi-literate, semi-grammar, they did not felt

To tell you ‘yes’ or ‘no’, creating unneeded drama.

The schools were closed. And at first was “Hooorey!“

But after a while kids got bored with moms and dads;

Some even began feeling

Like an electronic device attached to the games.

Zoom did not help. Bored, a-ha-a!

Teenagers began sneaking silently in the parks;

Jumping through the fence of the school yards.

Because they are young!

With time, some people got sick

From the depressing statistics

And figure it out, what is not realistic.

Covid Cult was created.

Under the cape of a dark,

many TVs ended up on the curb.

Many radios and cell phones were mute.

Now, dark days are behind,

But we still wear masks, as a part of the Covid Cult.
