Coping

I turn to mindfulness

to cope with my pain

focusing on breathing

I anchor myself

in the present moment

Concentrating on

each inhalation and exhalation

pain is pushed to the side

no longer my main focus

I am aware of its presence

without judgement

my anxiety and frustration wanes

The breath becomes a refuge

for my mind’s suffering

it calms my instinct

to fight or flight

my pain turns less sharp

So does this meditation

become a medication
