Coming Into 2024

Reflecting on joys and pain as the new year is approaching. What will it bring?

When sickness plays its grounding edge

And the flowers or birds can’t be seen

Or heard; they hide from you

Only the rain relentless pounding

Sodden at the door luring you inside

To walk bare feet feel the wet

The steam around your toes

Reckless as you slam the door

Wishing for a coat you don’t have.

You have come to die at the river

The old year will take you out

Never leaving this place

Stamped with so many revolving memories

How much was done

Wrapped and tied eager-hearted

Roughly and quickly urgency.

So many people so many experiences

Love shame joy and pain

It’s all relative

As you greet the New Year

Slowly dancing as best you can

With two oppositional legs and

A stomach lined with acid and fire

To cheer you forward.
