A Green Hat

In China “wearing a green hat” is an expression used for a man whose wife is unfaithful.

Unknowingly he wore a green hat

Children giggled as he passed by

Women gossiped behind his back

Men teased him with sighs

But he didn’t know why

Subtly his wife’s passion dwindled

Her kisses felt like lies

She shied away from him at night

Unconsciously she leaked out a secret

In her dream during sleep

When she mumbled the name of another man

Stealthily he trailed her steps

As suspicion rose in his head

And he unveiled her betrayal

Furiously he slashed a knife

Splattered his green hat with crimson red

And silenced people’s derision
