Tunnel Ahead

Darkness greets me.

I edge forward and the black cavernous mouth of the tunnel swallows me. It

takes time for my eyes to adjust, then notice drifting shadows. I glance behind me but a

sheet of sheer black nothingness blocks any view. No going back. Step by cautious

step, I advance.

I want out. Now. I trudge on, straining to see a glimmer of light indicating the end

of this nightmare near, but disappointment drains and drags me down. When will it end?

A slow boil churns my stomach and the angst never abates. I feel helpless as the

demon threatens my survival and the lives of the phantoms surrounding me.

Will life be the same on the other side, assuming I live to exit this devilish tunnel?

Praying, begging, hoping for it all to end, I continue to slog on because there is no other

option.
