The Nocturnal Heart
/The night was born
After light took a nap,
Light never knew time
Had been prolonged.
Allowing twilight to
Intervene, and letting
Us close the eyes
Longer than promised.
A gap widened,
Expanding space,
Allowing time to pass,
The mind played musical
Chairs, letting the moon
Spy for sun.
The auburn grin
Remained sharp,
But did he miss
The trick, handing
The baton to the moon?
She fell for the night,
Never to reunite.
Asking the silence
Encompass the firmament,
And letting all sleep deeply,
To let dreams entwine, and
Drawing all deeper
Into fantasy's realm.
