The Magic Act

I watch and wait in wonder as the light begins to fade

And mist appears, mysterious, as if to set the stage

Where sits a single smooth-faced stone, in silent solitude

Demanding my attention, my eyes unblinked fast glued

Then....nothing  an eternity

as if the World has stilled

The air about so heavy with fear and failure filled

But wait... the surface of the stone begins to creak and crack

Then from its depths a slender strand appears and downward seems to track

To reach the earth, to stretch and swell, to gather in its strength

To lift the stone above the ground  to raise it up at length

I gasp as yet another strand emerges, upward wrought

And reaches to the heavens where the brightest light is sought

To split   to branch,  to colour drawn  the palest shade of green

The birthing of a mighty Oak

such magic rarely seen
