Stick Figures

Pale light of the moon rendered a telltale sign on a cave wall. A queue of stick figures, primarily children gathered looking at a priest on a mountain. The priest sermoned and picked up a child. He took him to the gallows. Parents witnessed this atrocity in petrified silence. Their King sat reading from a scroll. There was no rain, no harvest. The temple decreed sacrifice of young blood as a ruse to boost harvest. Little bodies lay amok at gods’ altar. There were still no crops. Famine persisted. A gaping horror of cries, crescendoed hollering justice.
