Regret

Midlife crisis

Yearned for rebirth

Took him for granted

Blind to worth

Deflected frustration

Treated him badly

Deliberately cruel

Targeted vulnerability

Time after time he

Excused misbehaviour

Drew a line under past

Not a ripple of anger

But I could not settle

Wanted more

Perceived him, our life,

Suffocating bore

Decided to leave

Continue chasing youth

Foolish mistake

That is the truth

Regret haunts my nights

Impinges on dreams

Tears relentlessly

At heart's seams
