Only For Your Love...

It's a poem about long-ago unrequited love.

————

Oh, sweet Jeanne, to long ago

My thoughts return and won’t let go

Of youthful bliss, youthfulness

I’m sorry you had to be the first

For me to learn about love’s burst

As that made you incomparable

Making my life nearly unbearable

I had before you no one to measure

After, no one could equal your treasure

I was grateful to learn, not dread

With the aid of David Gates’ band

And song, “Diary” by Bread

That the only fair kind of wish

Upon unrequited love’s squish

Is that you’ll receive so kind

All the good things you can find

After so many years passed so fast

Couldn’t even find your photograph

Sadly, then stopped recalling your looks

Tried scanning through my old books

Took many vast searches on the internet

To see your beauty is still so intricate

Once more I can picture that face

Nuzzling against mine at your place

I look deep into to such soulful eyes

With overwhelming emotions I cry

I also now cannot help but wonder

If you ever felt you made a blunder

Ending us, and do you still play

The song we made together

“Only for Your Love”?

I even imagined your responsive quote

Answering my questions, “Of course, to both

Now and then, especially when

I play on my piano our lovely only song

Your tender poem to me, the lyrics

While you were the muse for my music

I’ll take good wishes, and know so keen

I hoped you the same.  Always… Jeanne”
