My Favourite Season

Winter has been long and oh how I long for a good cider in the warm Summer sun. But first, to watch as everything renews, grows and let’s us know that yeah we have periods where it’s bleak and cold. There are better times to come - roll on summer!!!

————

My favourite season is the spring, when everything shows signs,

Of tiny buds of greenery and mother nature shines,

The cold, dark trees begin to push their green leaves through the bark,

The banks and hedgerows start to glow, they don’t seem half as dark

As when I came in wintertime, then everything looked dead,

But they were only sleeping in their cold, wet wintry bed.

But what a change has since occurred, like fingers reaching high

Everywhere there are dots of green, all reaching for the sky.

And I can even smell the growth, it's so much different now,

They're all alive and growing well, a miracle somehow,

They’ve suffered such atrocities, the cold, the wet and the snow

And yet they're back and working hard in the dark soil down below.

And I for one will love to see the hedgerow out in bloom,

And the joy they give will always live, in mother nature’s womb.
