Mothers

Without Mom, none of us would be around.

Mothers knock me out!

No matter what stupid, savage, or silly thing you do, your mother will love you anyway. People say their pets love them unconditionally; mothers really do. They’re special, none like them. They are a universal singularity.

BB King famously said, “Nobody love me but my mama”.

Every mammal on Earth could say the same. Bear cubs, puppies, Popes and Bluesmen all have one thing in common — their mamas love them.

If a mother’s unconditional love for her children weren’t so universal, it would qualify as miracle. In fact, it is miracle.

The world is full of everyday miracles that go underappreciated because expected.

The Sun shines, the rain falls, the flowers grow. Of course they do, isn’t that what they’re supposed to do? Yes, they are, but only on Earth. They don’t do that on any other known planet. They are miracles that go underappreciated as miracle, because so reliable, so expected.

Just like Mom.

In my selfish younger years, I was much too busy with too much of everything. I was often remiss in phoning Mom — you know, I was just too busy to call. If I waited too long, Mom would call me in gentle reproach,” This is your Mom, remember me”?

Moms never tire of reminding you of what you should be doing — for your own good — for your own potentialities. Moms do whatever they can to ensure their children are healthy, successful, and happy.

Moms encourage their beloved children to greater effort, and console them, even if their kid's greater effort doesn’t succeed. Whether good times and bad, Mom is there for you. She loves you as much when you fail as when you succeed — as much when you call, as when you forget. A fidelity seen otherwise only in dogs and saints — Nobody love you like your Mama.

Without Mom, none of us would be around.

Mother’s Day gives us an annual reminder and opportunity to appreciate mom.

My dear wife, Joyce, is gone to Heaven. Her daughter, Mandala, is now a mother. I send Mandala flowers every Mother’s Day. I do this to honor both Joyce and Mandala. I also do it to honor motherhood in general.

Mothers knock me out.

Happy Mother’s Day.
