Monica And Louie…

Monica And Louie The Performing Motherhood Duet

Paulie judges a talent contest with parental guidance

Due to his aristocratic monarch royal attitude, Paulie found himself assigned to the Scholastic talent show judge’s table, as the community’s satirical appointment honoring the young boy with one powerful moment.  Throughout the evening, get together, a supportive village crowd enthusiastically cheered each routine, involving one parent and their child. Guarding backstage former homecoming Queen, Monica stood holding the wireless microphone, while her fifth-grade bundle of joy adjusted an earpiece connected to the amplifier wire. “Ready to do this?” She looked down questioning her elementary age son. “Yup,” Louie responded, showing the drumsticks.

“Next up is,” the Emcee paused, “Monica and Louie.”

Sitting back Paulie monitored with a keen eye, the duet performing the song “Sonnin” written by Monica while cradling the most precious gift.

A few rows back, Paulie could hear Poppa whisper to Momma, “I remember when Monica would,”

Later in the evening, Princess Lida received her spotlight honor, belting out a ballad entitled, “Wait, Hold On”.

When the fantasy finished, she disappeared behind the curtain before peering out, catching Prince Paulie jotting down a few notes.

After all the acts completed their duties, everyone summoned Paulie to the stage, “who won?” A loud voice screamed.

“Winner of this year’s Scholastic Talent Show is,” Paulie paused, and Princess Lida started rising, “Monica and Louie”.

House lights suddenly went dark, and Princess Lida confronted Paulie while he gripped a refreshing soda can, “Prince Paulie,” she sounded like this was an offstage commentary, “Monica and Louie?”

“Princess Lida,” Paulie addressed his royal companion, “rules state there needs to be a family connection, and rules are the rules.”

“The lyrics were wait, hold on,” Princess Lida explained, “you, me, family.”

“Your funny, your highness,” Paulie laughed leaving Princess Lida in the dark.

Time passed and Paulie, saw Momma and Poppa socializing during the lobby party, and the former decision maker met the winners, ‘Monica and Louie’.

“You know,” Poppa recounted, “I remember when you used to sit at the all-night diner’s piano and write songs.”

“What made you stop? Honey,” Momma interjected.

“Motherhood,” Monica told them, “But I had one more left in me, and I wrote Sonnin.”

“That is great,” Momma and Poppa gave her a congratulatory handshake.

Quickly brisking by Princess Lida left a parting shot, “I thought it was about sitting on the beach.”

“No, "Monica corrected, “it's about Motherhood.”

“Prince Paulie, see you tomorrow,” Princess Lida replied.

“Good night,” Paulie cordially responded keeping his attention focused on the one-time high school matriarch turned mother.
