Miss Jean Heat

Temperatures are rising but the village sidewalk gets completed

————

While walking home after grade promotion graduation, Paulie bumped into a young lady surveying the sidewalk servicing the village.

"May I ask? Who are you?” Inquired the maturing lad.

"Miss Jean Heat and this is my Union Jack Hammer," the construction worker answered wearing a bowler headdress, instead of a hard hat.

"What are you doing?" Paulie continued investigating.

"Gunna make your path here, safer by tearing apart the surface then recementing,"

"Does the job have a completion date?"

"When you return, everything will look brand new," Miss Jean Heat promised.

Hearing enough, Paulie traveled home where he would stay for the next six weeks. Without a rain cloud in the sky, Miss Jean Heat created a sweaty setting working dawn to dusk, taking only water breaks.

"Man, its sultry out there," Paulie spending another living moment wearing pajamas, sitting on the porch, sipping family friendly cool brewed iced tea as the hot tin roof endured the rising temperatures.

"It's too sweltering to even pick berries and nuts," Momma noted.

"Soon rain will arrive," Poppa hoped, seeing a red four-wheel status symbol, appear in the parking lot, "who could that be?"

"Miss Jean Heat and her Union Jack Hammer," Paulie identified.

Stepping out, displaying a steaming personality, the contractual worker smiled, "Master Paulie," she addressed, "good news all the days without any disruptive weather allowed me to finish early, and your academic entry looks fantastic."

"Well thank you," Momma sent a gratitude message.

"We've been stuck inside the air condition cottage," Paulie replied, "all summer."

"Great! Coming together, strengthening your household bonding," Miss Jean Heat surmised, "that is what my Union Jack Hammer is all about, creating an environment so stifling; nothing can break, forcing everyone into a relaxed mood."

Knowing things were ready for drastic changes, Miss Jean Heat unleashed a friendly wave towards the trio.  Watching the sportsmobile disappear, the three also noticed, "time to go back inside."

"Seems like storm clouds,"

"Do you think Miss Jean Heat's job is done and that is why she waved?" Paulie inquired.

"No, Paulie, we are now facing down a heavenly tearful tantrum, and rapid cooling period," Poppa concluded, noting the heatwave ending.
