Italian Style Emotional Guardening Tips

After reading that her bridge partner Gwendolyn Knight passed away, Momma heads out into the garden to find closure.

As the sun ascended into the blue sky, lighting and guiding a new daily path, Momma woke up immediately tending to the basic morning chores including preparing Paulie for the school departure before feeding Poppa, making sure he had enough to eat.

While her husband enjoyed the traditional first meal Momma silently leafed through the newspaper. Reading the headlines, noticing the advertisement sales was the routine task.

Reaching the final page Momma gasped, “What’s wrong?” Poppa inquired.

“Oh dear,” she responded, “Gwendelyn Knight, my bridge partner passed away, natural causes.”

“Yes, I remember her, she baked those wonderful cookies,” Poppa reminisced.

“We played as a team and helped others in the group over troubled water.”

After their somber conversation Momma stiffened her lip and headed out into the garden with a rake. Not wanting to be a bother Poppa sat on the porch with his pipe until Paulie came home from school.

“Your late today,” Poppa gave a stern notification.

“Jamie Munroe, the softball pitcher, had a game,”

“How did she do?” Poppa asked.

“Not good,” Paulie admitted, “didn’t have the right stuff.”

“What did she do about it?” The discussion continued.

“Took the rake out to the mound and went looking for answers,”

“Answers?”

“She thought if she dug up some dirt,” Paulie explained, “what’s Momma doing?”

“She is coping with loss too, son,” Poppa informed, “and she is sifting through the mud hoping, direction could be found.”

Soon nightfall came and Paulie finished his homework and headed over to the dinner table, “look what I found today in all my misery?” Momma announced.

“That is the biggest eggplant I have ever seen,” Paulie shouted.

“Just add some cheese and marinera sauce,” Poppa added, “and,”

“And that,” Momma finished the thought, “is how we cope with loss in this family.”
