Inka’s Curse Part 21: Alone In The Dark

My fear is the parts of the armor are missing. They help me look there the boxes. “Here,” Rachel said.

Something was wrong. It sounded like Titan was trying to mutter something. I turned to him. I couldn’t comprehend what was going on. Something was assaulting him. But I couldn’t observe it. My whole body tingled.

“I don’t get this. I don’t sense anything,” Rachel said.

What can we do? How can we defend ourselves against something that we can’t see? Time to think outside the box. Something strikes me from behind. Maybe I can seize the box and run for it. I cry out in pain. Titan is missing. Where could he have gone?

“The bodies,” Rachel says, “these are the troubled spirits of those who died.”

The bodies are burnt and unrecognizable. But they are wearing armor that is way too familiar. What’s really going on at Freymoor? Either these are also Hether in disguise, or the queen’s army has betrayed her?

I have to find Titan before it's too late. I don’t know what to do. I have to stop thinking and just act.

Whispers coming from every direction as if I'm surrounded. But I'm alone. I sit on the floor waiting for something to happen. As the sea hums and the whispers come and go. The ship creaks. My chest tightens as I think about whether I should withdraw my sword.

It's as though it knows how I'm feeling. As I let my guard down, it attacks. I hide under a desk of some sort. It detects me. As if two beings were circling around me and I couldn't do anything. I listen carefully. A whistle. I stay as still as possible. In the dark something begins taking shape. A mixture of blue and white balls floating around. "Ghosts!" Rachel was right. I finally shout out not knowing where anyone else is. I can hear Rachel in the distance. I follow her voice. Ghosts can't kill as far as I know. Why are these so violent?

I hid behind a door as I listen to someone stomping down the hall. I wait a few minutes before entering. I hear doors opening and closing coming from below me. I'm tempted to walk down. Someone sees me from above. I must face it. My face begins reddening. It goes away and knocks on a door not far from it. It waits.

I make a sudden movement. It seems to not have noticed as it continues knocking again. It waits. It walks. I can't move. I don't want to be discovered. It feels like I'm eavesdropping on something from another time. An argument.

I don't know what about. I can't make out the words. But the one that sounds like they're in charge tries to calm the other tried to get them to vacate the room. There's a problem and the leader will fix it as soon as they can. A door opens and then closes.

I think it's safe to go down. Every movement I make produces a sound. Sneaking around is impossible.
