If You Could...

If You Could See What I See!

Narrator:

Scene: A simple wooden table, 4 chairs seating 4 people,

all intently staring, wholly focused on an object situated in the

center of the table, out of sight of the audience.

Narrator:

They sit and stare as if gazing upon the most beautiful

painting ever known to mankind.  Their gazes penetrate

clear thru to the very core - the soul - of the perfect object of their rapture. Exhale if you must - if you dare - But best you

stifle for fear of desecrating this sacred moment. This

moment of deep contemplation and wondrous discovery.

The First to Speak stutters a bit in search of his voice:

First Person: I... I...Ooooooooh! It’s absolutely magnificent! The most perfect of its kind I’ve ever seen.  Those lines! The symmetry! The contrast! Truly a work of art, nay, a masterpiece,  like no other!  The hue...th…

Narrator: Chorus interrupts - in whispered tone:

Chorus: Another Way of Seeing…Another Way of Being…

2nd Person to Speak:

The hue? The hue?  Pooh, the hue!  Before us we behold all nature’s wonders magnificently  presented in their purest unadulterated form.

It represents the ultimate of perfection known on this earth.

Far more than a cold, intangible result of an artist’s instrument as

depicted by the bloke who spoke just now.It can be touched, held, even tossed about! I don’t know what he was lookin’ at but what I’m seein’ is so much more! It has depth and uniqueness beyond belief.

Chorus:

Another Way of Seeing…

Another Way of Being…

3rd Person to Speak:

I don’t know what you two are seeing here, but I’ll have some

of what you’re on!  What presents before us here is pathetically

ordinary! Common!

Narrator: Chorus - Speaks Aloud:

Chorus: What you see is what you get!

4th Person to Speak:

Peace, people! Peace! Fair to say, I’d say, that this object has

been fruitful in its quest for your attention. As for me, what

I see is the most and the least of all you saw.

First person feasted and fantasized on what the object inspired

in him. Second person focused on the physical nature of what he

beheld, taking it to its many possibilities.

Third person, well, third person... took it for what it was at its most basic level.

Whilst I, I..

Narrator: Voice from somewhere mid-table interrupts:

Oh f’crying’ out loud, people!  Take me any way you wish! Paint

your paintings, play with me, marvel at me, take me for what I am...inhale me, absorb me, devour me. Or none of the above!

I am what I am - a freakin’ orange!
