I Try To Keep Calm

Sitting all parched in distant weather,

My hunger punches against me.

I feel my anxiety crawling under my skin,

I try to keep calm.

I feel like a bag filled with stones,

My heart as heavy as a rock,

As cold as ice.

I try to keep calm.

For how long will this misery prevail?

My thoughts have taken over me,

My soul thirsts to be free.

I try to keep calm.

I attempt to escape reality.

These outrageous thoughts,

Make happiness a memory that I can’t revive.

Yet, I try to keep calm.

In my mind, a disaster of thoughts,

In my soul, a profound fear of failure.

And I worry that this calmness is the one,

That comes before a storm.
