Hauling the Down of a Thistle
/Things Clement Clarke Moore chose to ignore.
————
The coursers who carried his sleigh through the snow
would sometimes tell stories we’d rather not know.
They had some wry names for the guy called “Big Nick,”
and many sly puns using words rhymed with “thick.”
“The Saint” knew jokes, too, which the jolly old fellow
had learned climbing chimneys into a bordello
(for children of every age yearn for his visit—
awaiting their presents, their joy is exquisite).
On silent nights, you might hear reindeer give sass
as they whisper, “Now haul away, haul away ass!”
