Grey Thoughts

Expired

This poem was inspired by cleaning out a kitchen cupboard.

————

In rearranging

kitchen shelves,

the dead are brought

to light:

A cannister

of constipated

daily fiber died

six months ago.

A two-year’s lifeless

jar of powdered

vitamin C

no longer kicks a cold.

A flask of Jack’s

honey liqueur

from my father’s burial

four long years ago.

Can love’s memory

Ever die?

I’ll take a sip and see.
