Dilemma

The fortune-teller reshuffled the cards

 I pulled out one

A bereaved sparrow on a rooftop

 Not a good card

I contemplated the contents

for a while

before handing it back

Dropping a coin into his bowl

I walked away

too saddened to be distracted

by the sudden commotion

at the market square

Why invest in something

That will only be washed away

Over time

Like a sand castle by waves

But if I never give things a try

How can I ever know their outcome?

And this image of a lonely sparrow

on a rooftop

Could that be my end?
