A Room With A…
/A Room With A Unique View
There are stages in life that feel so good that we are reluctant to advance. We have come a long way, and need some rest. We rationalize.
Soon, the excuses we sow mature into good reasons to extend our stay. We do not realize how we have outgrown our new environment until moving on becomes expensive. It is then we realize the many opportunities missed from the lack of discipline to remain consistent in our climb.
If we do not brace ourselves up to pay whatever price it takes to press on, we may end up consoling ourselves with comparisons. There are many people in life who are content with just circling in motions that lead no where. So far as we’re up for the game of comparisons, there will always be partners willing to let us win.
Just as there are places meant for temporary stay, there are also connections that are meant to serve temporary purposes, after which one must move on.
Unfortunately we hold on, trying hard to turn acquaintances into lifelong companions till the attempt render us sore and sick, a friction that damages useful bonds permanently.
It is good to keep contacts. No one knows tomorrow. But you must know where to keep each contact and what label to place on them. Some are jewels to be kept in treasure boxes. Some are chopping boards on which ideas are dissected. Some contacts will beg you to keep them in the trash can. They may not say it, but their attitude and actions will.
Discernment is a useful skill. It helps you see treasure in an overlooked, unfinished product. It gives you patience to stick to something everyone has lost hope in.
Like every skill, it takes constant practice to sharpen discernment. And in practice one must make room for a lot of mistakes. This is the room with a unique view on the the people we meet and what place they have in our lives.
Discernment is the internal alarm that wakes us up from the comfort of temporary destinations.
