The Plead

Taiwo's phone has been ringing continuously for the past thirty minutes and she sat on the couch starring motionlessly at the crying phone as tears streamed down her face. Marcel has called severally to futility.

Finally, perhaps after much thought, she decided to welcome the incoming call ''For all I care, get out of my life and let me be." She couldn't utter more, her tears choked the rest. "Taiwo please am..." was all he could say before she hung the call. The latter resolved into an uncontrollable sob, she's being traumatized, sentences from their last meeting reverberated in her head ''Get away from me you silly hag...it's palpable that our cohabitation is askew to me 'cause you're so unfortunate... I can't just envisage this blatant promiscuous thing telling me she's pregnant...you're nothing but a pipsqueak... now lemme tell you, if I ever see your filthy legs around me...'' Those statements transfixed her heart as she resolved to the couch with superfluous downpour of tears.

He would have been easy to do away with if she had not gone far with him-- she was encumbered with memories, moreover he was responsible for this child --perhaps she could but something is holding her back. Everything has a beginning.

It all started the night Marcel kicked an étagère off the table out of curiosity perhaps anxiety of meeting a new lass whom he met on Instagram. She would be arriving Lagos from Overseas in few days time.

He seized his opportunity and cajoled her to become his...only-God-knows.

It was hot already, on the D-day. Taiwo woke up from her siesta to answer her call, it was an anonymous number so she had to ignore. On getting her sleep, the number called again. This time around, she picked, thinking perhaps it could be someone who's familiar. Good-Heavens!! There was silence on the other side, making her continuous 'hello' to no avail. With escalated fury "this person must be mad" she said and dropped the phone.

On dropping the phone, a message jumped in reading 'Taiwo it me Franka, I would arrive Lagos today'-- Franka is a childhood friend who had gone to Malaysia without the requisites of a traveller, no doubt she used the desert--With less surprise and more anger did she reply 'so you couldn't notify me before now'. No sooner had she returned the message, Franka's message jumped again 'I intended it as a surprise...'

It was dark already. Taiwo, now dressed in an effervescent red gown with a black purse and black stilettos which attracted onlookers. She hit the road to arrive at 'The Juries' ale house --Marcel's favourite relaxation spot-- to disburse some good news, only God knows what news it is. Getting there, she saw the quorum ahead and proceeded. To her bewilderment, she almost got her ankle twisted as her legs shudder on seeing Marcel's head on Franka's protuberant.
