Grey Thoughts

The Ocean

Their house nestles on the oceanside

Greeted by vast sapphire blue every morning

Their lives interweave with the ocean

She sees him off to fish before dawn

Welcomes him back after dusk

Every day they celebrate a bountiful harvest

They imbibe the richness of the ocean

One moonless night

The ocean roars like a beast

The wind sharp as whetted blades

Waves turn into successive

Towery-collapsing walls

The horizon from where

She expects his returning sail is

Replaced by a giant gnawing jaw

She shudders and weeps

Begging the ocean to return him back alive

In exchange for anything she can offer

The ocean bellows

It takes nothing but life

Her waiting becomes endless

Day after day she waits on the beach

Ocean now is calm

Moon sprinkles silver sequins

Over serene water

She wanders along the shore

The ebb and flow of waves

Kiss her feet flirtingly

Conjoining muffled ocean whispering

Is his faint familiar voice

The deep sea is calling

He is coaxing her to come

Her vibe is resonating

She plunges into their embraces
