Grey Thoughts

The Midnight Girl

Hiding ugly wounds under pretty bandages is easy. But at the end of the day, it's just a bloody band-aid and an ugly scar.

————

Have you seen the girl

seen only as the midnight turns.

Down by the fuming waters, as it seems

a place no sane man will go even in his wildest dreams.

Every night she tries to wash away her regrets

that chain her soul, dwelling in darkness and secrets.

Some call her beauty with no bounds,

shining like corals, as cliche it may sound.

But nobody sees it’s her soul gleaming from far,

thousands of pieces of broken glass.

She wants to sweep it all off,

but each fragment too sharp and her touch too soft.

Every night, a new try, so far

only means deep fresh wounds over yesterday’s scar.

Blood soaked every dawn, not getting the redemption she seeks,

yet no teardrop will cross her eyelids.

For she had been hurt, her world had fallen apart,

her soul was given bane of permanent scars.

A fog of pain on old memories and an unkept vow,

are all that’s left now.
