The Centurions
The Centurions (a 100-syllable Fibonacci)
Don't do like the Romans did.
————
One hundred
strong they marched along,
centurias heading from Rome.
Spreading like the ocean’s foam, to conquer every home
throughout the world: banners unfurled; lips sneared and curled; fierce war-cries skirled; gladii twirled; spears hurled.
Rarely defeated, strongly conceited, assured that their power would carry every hour,
but they retreated when losses entreated withdrawal
from powerful tribes such as Gaul.
At last, Rome would fall,
as do all.
