Perpetual Rebirth
Color creeping gently across a wooded mountain’s face
Like a muted, living flame developing apace
Fading green and valiant gold, orange, yellow, red, they burst
In brilliance like living fireworks that linger undispersed
In glory all around me, the vibrant colors spread
In melancholy splendor from leaves soon to be dead
As the playful breezes in their dance begin to chill
I gaze with quiet wonder upon the changing hill
Beautiful, the dying, soft silence cloaks the earth
Falling in the turning of perpetual rebirth
Poised upon the cusp of change, life waiting underground
Breathless silence in the land’s calm face, magic all around
Promise lingers in the air, just waiting to take form
A gentle fall, fat fluffy flakes—or a vicious storm
Cold as deep as fear, ice swirling madly for a time
Harsh and bleak in stark bare ground, yet there’s loveliness sublime
A whisper in the wind, deception in the light
No warmth found within the sun when the very air can bite
Bright crystalline beauty dominates the frozen earth
Sparkling in the turning of perpetual rebirth
Sweet and gentle, warmth flows in the land’s slow thawing
Almost surprising after months of icy gnawing
Hesitant at first, then with vigor bursting forth
Verdant growth reaching toward the sun for all it’s worth
Nature’s palette, the silken petals spread in bountiful bouquet
In fragrance and birdsong, my heart carried away
Aching brightness in the blooming, all around me strewed
Brilliant life abounding in a world that’s renewed
A thick and luscious cloak of green, covering the earth
Flowing in the turning of perpetual rebirth
Waves of air shimmer in the thick, oppressive heat
Come dusk, the night’s alive with crickets’ twilight beat
Lethargy across the land in a world that’s subdued
But in the height of warmth and growth, with magic it’s imbued
There’s time to watch the nighttime sky, and marvel at the light
A tapestry of scattered stars, so lovely and so bright
Cloudless skies of brilliant blue, infinitely deep
Until, with restless silence, thick grey clouds begin to creep
An awesome, violent thunderstorm drenches the parched earth
Crashing in the turning of perpetual rebirth
When life is rough, remember, it won’t always be so bad
For everything and everyone, there’s purpose to be had
Be strong and carry on, but don’t forget to stop and see
The wonders of our world, all that could ever be
Love to live, and live to love, to make the time worthwhile
Forgive, and laugh, and learn; greet others with a smile
Though short, our span of years to come, with care we make it last
Cherish time, before it’s gone; stop living in the past
Days come and go, moments fleeting as our time on Earth
Circling in the turning of perpetual rebirth
