Neglected
I found you in my memories
Laying askew on the shelf
Stuck between the reveries
And broken dreams
I promised myself
Carefully I pulled you out
And blew the dust away
Your skin was cracked
and lusterless
Surely, you'd seen a better day
I sat down with you, laid in my lap
And gently cleaned you up a bit
Your hair was dull and unruly
Your eyes were full of grit
It didn't take long before my heart
Surged with sweet sentiment
Recalling you'd filled my loneliness
With tender love and fulfillment
And when I bent to kiss your lips
A deep breath you inhaled
Your eyes, your cheeks, your nose,
I kissed
Whereupon you softly exhaled
Then you gazed into my eyes
All forgotten memories revived
Never again, love, would I forget
And leave you abandoned
or deprived
