Grey Thoughts

In The Distance

She sits on her porch

Enjoying the breeze

Antique rocking chair

Knitting on her knees

Peaceful neighbourhood

Values from another time

Here, future's clock

Does not chime

Punctually, at nine thirty

Mr Deveraux walks past

Remarks on the good weather

Hopes it will last

His grandson runs up

Wooden cane in hands

Both seniors smile wryly

At ageing's demands

In the distance

Increasingly difficult to ignore

Insistent police sirens

Shock to the core
