I'll Not Grow Old
Aging isn't easy but it's all in the mind and heart.
————
The days drag on
The years fly by
I stop to yawn,
Then start to cry
For I am old,
I greatly fear.
No longer bold
Nor seeing clear.
I stumble
as I walk along,
And mumbling
Is my new song.
I cannot hear,
As you know well.
And yesterday
I tripped and fell.
But deep inside,
Yet speaking out
Is that young bride,
Who roams about
Startling me
When I would weep
Reminding me
Memories will keep.
I'll not grow old
Within my heart
I'll not be cold,
She'll not depart.
I'll keep my bride
And teenage self
Along for the ride,
Not on the shelf
I'm only as young
As I believe.
My bell's not rung.
I will not grieve.
My heart will sing
My mind is clear
Age - just a thing,
No bother, dear.
