He Cared And Won

A man reflects on how fortune came late into his life yet it was worth the effort.

————

There came a time when he awoke from the daze of his youth.

Those fickle wasted years, unguided and no support

Held loosely by whim and enchantments.

A notion slipped in - that it is better to find refuge

In the care and endorsement of others.

Give them what you can of yourself and your bar of satisfaction will rise.

Not an easy life it was, often mocked by public opinion

Smothered by expectations he couldn’t meet so easily.

Ragged and restless, he persisted.

He was a brave wall of intention and vulnerability.

Yet sadness slid into his mind, raising a path looking like isolation.

It wasn’t that he’d lost his faith.

He knew what to do and how to do it; he’d earned it, learned it.

Was ardently repaid as Time and Fortune claimed him

Generously making him their master.
