Guarding Chivalry Patriotism

After dropping Princess Lida off at her castle, Paulie and Poppa return home to answer questions from Villager Becky Sue about the White Knight's fabrication on her side's flag

————

For most the day both sides celebrated ‘patriotism’ with the imperial family façade trying to establish a backbone stuck in the middle to the divided land on the border. Waving in the sunny blue skies high above the Princess Lida’s castle was a red, green, and yellow pennant that was a gift from Poppa upon the residency's completion. While right in between the cottage and barn where the zebra performed referee duties dealing with the property-owning issue, Poppa constructed a temporary pole featuring the same color scheme the royals were presented when the people finished the housing project. Only difference Poppa made sure there was an addition marking to the entrepreneur style flag that designated their true purpose in this setting.

Villager Becky Sue with one of the final ice cream cups in hand stared into the fabricated white knights' eyes that were being blinded by the porch light. “I assume my honorable duty oh dear knight is to guard the lovely Princess,” she wished upon the symbolic banner.

Off in the distance the crisp crackling gunpowder sound effects were dying down while Paulie and Poppa were returning from dropping her future majesty off at the gates, hearing the comment the young aristocrat and heir to the half fortune screamed back, “that’s the plan.”

Tension broke and Becky Sue laughed and started to make her way into the barn, “poor Zebra had to walk all the way to the other side.”

“He enjoyed the evening stroll,” Paulie commented.

“Yes, the Princess had to get back safely,” Poppa added.

“Such the act of patriotism,”

As the two gentlemen untacked and stored away the carriage equipment Becky Sue assisted in making sure the Zebra found its way to his stall. “Poppa why is there a white knight on our old glory and not Princess Lida’s?”

“That is a good question, Becky Sue” Poppa started to answer, “we are aristocrats, and we guard the powerful figureheads since we have money.”

“That’s an honest answer,” Paulie backed up Poppa.

“Sounds good to me,” the visiting villager responded giving the Zebra an extra helping in the feed bucket, “do not worry Zebra they have leftovers still in the refrigerator,” she whispered.

“Did you have enough patriotism today?” Poppa inquired.

“Sort of,” Becky Sue answered, “but I have one more patriotic act to accomplish tonight.”

“What is that?” Paulie asked.

“March home like they did in the old days.”

“Well safe travels,” Paulie wished her, and Becky Sue took the rich sentiment in stride.

Using the village lampposts as markers Becky Sue hoofed it down the road whistling a poetic tune when a ghostly image appeared. “It's the White Knight!” She exclaimed.

“Can I get you back home in one piece?” The vision asked.

“Sure,” Becky Sue agreed feeling like a Princess, “I guess you, have to believe in something in these rural parts.”

“Yes, there is always time for chivalry” the dream like trusting character kicked his mount two times and Becky Sue was soon warm under the covers.
