Dogs walking people…
Dogs walking people; People walking dogs
Early morning, walking the dog;
Fishermen standing by the pond;
Passerby, headphones in, on a jog,
Face somewhat sullen, unseemly agog—
I say ‘good morning,’ she doesn’t respond.
Soon my dog excitedly barks and attempts to rush—
She habitually gives way to making friends.
The other dog’s owner slows, flushed,
Apologizes for her dog passing, hushed,
But just being a dog; I don’t comprehend.
Passing bramble and thicket, down gravel path,
Trudgery and merriment having a laugh—
Purple tinged daisy fleabane bloom rath,
While two robins dipdance to take baths:
Perhaps a supple show on my behalf.
Easy gait through lush woods,
And returning from the beaten trail;
I’d take up sanctuary if I instantly could—
Verdant footpaths meet the highest good.
Domestication currently exists, a minor detail.
