Cheaters Prosper
No one likes a cheater.
I should know.
Kelly accused me.
Never was caught in the act.
They told us that in school,
the same school we attended,
Kelly and me.
Ms. Selleck said cheaters never
get ahead, and rarely get what they want in life.
If I learned anything in the 3rd grade,
that was it.
But apparently, Kelly misunderstood
my sheepish grin,
hiding behind my wolf-like teeth,
ready to tear her apart
limb from limb, hoping over hope
that along the way home,
she’d collapse under the lies she told.
Kelly was easy on the eyes,
that they were right about,
but her anxious attachment
was heavy on the heart.
Kelly’s lips were painted red
for another night,
sneaking out with him.
He, instead of me, was running
through Kelly’s head.
I’d say I’m better off dead,
but then I’d never see the off chance
that her new relationship backfires.
And God, do I want it to ignite
and catch the trembling
regret in Kelly’s soul by surprise.
And what the fuck is this?
Kelly’s back at my house,
begging me for the forgiveness
she knows she doesn’t deserve.
Although cheaters never get
what they deserve,
I had skeletons in my closet.
So, this is what we call even.
