An Inspirational Conversation

After a spirited Saturday Night aristocratic royal definition debate,  Paulie heads off to the border crosses seeking inspiration.

————

One Saturday night Paulie slept comfortably until the natural wakeup call peeked through the blinds. Without any encouragement his eyes opened, and a split second later last evening’s debate resurfaced in the youngster's mind. During the conversation that at times turned angry Becky Sue defined the aristocrat side while Princess Lida’s whose housing Paulie’s family funded took the royal agenda.

Despite glaring teenage sneers everybody went home friendly enjoying social interaction but the question between the two words haunted Paulie.

“Poppa,” the youngster shouted from the pillow, “are you using the zebra for church services?”

“No, we went last night,” the answer returned.

Quickly sitting up the affluent son decided to find guidance in understanding the happy medium between what his friends turn into spirited discussions.

An hour later after tacking the zebra up with the cart Paulie grabbed the reigns and the pair set off on a Sunday morning pilgrimage. Passing the worshipping house, an invisible force inside told him, ‘Keep going onto the border.’ Following directions, a sensitive whip command and snap then cluck, signaled the zebra with proper instructions. Within minutes they approached the other side and Paulie could see the castle from a different vantage point off in the distance. But staring him straight in the face, was a place where he goes when seeking inspiration.

“The Land of Crosses,” he acknowledged using a soft-spoken tone before leaving the Zebra standing guard realizing he could not take him any further in this quest.

Upon entering the place where the artistic biblical message occupied the hill a wind nearly knocked off the financially secure regal student’s pedestal. Peering at each detailed carved creation he professed that he was not a King, instead only a mere Prince exploring unknown mysteries. As for strong bank accounts, that all came from treating people with respect and full day’s labor.

“Can’t you give me inspiration to solve this maturing adolescent puzzle that challenges, ‘who I am’?”

As the sun transitioned its way from yellow to orange Poppa found peace sitting on the porch, observing Paulie finish the final zebra driving commitments.

“Did you enjoy your Sunday adventure?”

“Yes, Poppa but no one told me any answers.”

“But they were there finding inspiration from you since they see you as a leader, someone they can call when needing help,”

“Poppa does that mean I am an aristocrat or royalty?”

“That my son, is your decision,”

Between classes the next day Paulie gathered up a few textbooks he needed to take home when the girls surrounded their prey, “do you know why we seek inspiration from you?” Becky Sue stopped chewing her gum, “you have a brain unlike other guys around here.”

“Paulie, when your family helped our family, it was like you were a Prince to us,” Princess Lida added, “that makes you, my inspiration.”

Hearing these acknowledgements Paulie’s heart smiled realizing the true meaning behind the royal aristocratic obligation to other people.
